The Midwest Industries AR-15 Blast Diverter is a linear compensator design engineered to redirect muzzle blast forward for .223 Rem and 5.56mm NATO AR-pattern firearms. Built with a 1/2x28 TPI thread interface and a black phosphate steel finish, it is aimed at improving shootability on AR pistols and short-barrel rifles.

This does , indeed,...
This does , indeed, throw the sound forward and in front of the shooter and not to the side like so many brakes do. It works as a reverse brake in that gasses are expelled forward and increase not decrease recoil. If you are looking for something to increase recoil, or at least project the noise of the shot forward and away from you this works very well. It is steel and although I have yet to try it on a .223/ 5.56 AR, it increase recoil a bit on the S&W 15-22 Performance Model .22 LR and keeps the noise .... forward.
