I recently purchased the Dan Wesson Specialist in 9mm from Bud's Gun Shop online, I could not find anyone locally that would take a trade-in of a Springfield Range Officer Champion. Bud's was able to value my trade-in, and made the entire process easy to understand from beginning to end. I'm an old guy with no extensive technical abilities. 5 stars to BGS. I know that they are overwhelmed with calls and inquiries (look at the number of folks online right now) but they do respond in a timely manner.\r On to product review, this is the 3rd 1911 I own, so I do have some comparative knowledge. This gun would be heavy to carry everyday, so it is delegated for range work and local matches. You can feel the quality when you pick it up and rack the slide. Smooth, quiet, no rattling or looseness anywhere. I have just completed the recommended break-in procedure (50 rounds, then clean and lube for the first 350-500 rounds) and now the gun is flawless. During break-in, there are going to be some FTF and failures to lock back. Frustrating, but carry on and use a quality gun oil for lubrication. The supplied Dan Wesson magazines have not worked well, and due to the height of the rubber base pads will get stuck in the gun and cannot be removed without extra effort, Dan Wesson needs to address this issue right away. Look online and others are having this same problem. I have Wilson Combat ETM's and replaced the springs and followers in them and also used a Chip McCormick Power Mag with no problem. Recoil is nearly non-existent, sights are excellent, the VZ grips are excellent, the first thing that really exudes quality when you pick up the gun is the grip checkering. If you are looking for a quality built, solid steel 1911 at a relatively good price, this is the one.
