I previously...
I previously purchased, and was well pleased with, a Dan Wesson .45 ACP Specialist; and I purchased this TCP because I wanted a pistol (1) of the same quality, (2) also with a Picatinny rail, but (3) smaller and lighter. And I had read particularly favorable reviews of the TCP. Dan Wesson recommends that its 1911s receive a break-in period of between 300 and 500 FMJ rounds, with cleaning and oiling every 50 rounds. So far, I have shot 425 rounds through the Specialist and 50 rounds through the TCP, both without any problems. My initial impression is that I shoot both pistols with equal accuracy, even though the TCP's barrel is an inch shorter than the Specialist's. Also -- and this has surprised me even more -- the 32-ounce TCP seems to have no more felt recoil than the 42.3-ounce Specialist has.If I'm not imagining this, it's probably because of an advanced recoil-spring system that the TCP has. There are several YouTube videos that explain this system. It complicates the pistol's disassembly a bit; however, it does seem to make the pistol easier to shoot well. Pending the completion of the FMJ break-in period and commencement of testing of hollow-point rounds, I would recommend this pistol to others. There are a great many counterpart pistols that are less expensive; however, the TCP seems to exemplify the concept of "You get what you pay for."
