Recently picked up...
Recently picked up this firearm from Buds. It is my first Dan Wesson and I must say it is a very impressive 1911. I also have a Colt Lightweight Commander and the fit and finish of the Valkyrie is at another level. Not that the Colt is bad but the precision and tightness of the fit is amazing. I've only put about 100 rounds through it at this point but it shoots like a dream and it definitely more accurate than I am and I've experienced no malfunctions so far with the stock mags or Chip McCormick Power Mags. Being that it's a 9mm I could shoot it all day with no discomfort whatsoever. I have never handled or shot a custom 1911 before and while I'm sure they are incredible, they can't be that much above this firearm, especially given the price. If you're looking for a 1911 with custom feel for considerably less money, you need to try a Dan Wesson. I've already put a Specialist in layaway.

The recent price drop...
The recent price drop on Valkyrie commanders and Bud's generous layaway program allowed me to take the plunge and purchase my first Dan Wesson. I picked-up the pistol from my FFL four days ago and am currently in the break-in process using hardball ammunition, cleaning, and oiling, as recommended. Impressions to date: the Valkyrie commander is a great firearm, great weight and balance, outstanding trigger, nice sights (quick on target), and excellent fit/finish - everything I anticipated a Dan Wesson firearm would be. I have experienced zero failures to feed so far. The only issue I have had is that the slide has failed to lock back on an empty mag on a few occasions but will evaluate further with different ammo as the break in process continues. I'm currently using Blazer hardball ammo with the two factory mags and four Wilson Combat ETM mags. The Dan Wesson Valkyrie commander is top shelf and must admit that I'm having a blast breaking it in and working with this fine firearm!

Great service again...
Great service again from Bud's. Picked up the gun at the local shop in Lexington KY. Personnel were very polite and helpful in the purchase. Now for the 1911: Straight after the purchasee, had a free 30mins range time at Bud's. Dropped 400 rounds of 115 and 124 grain FMJ ammo from diffrent manufacturers thru the gun. Had a few hickups doublefeeding, but later found that the feed lips on the magazines were too wide and so I modified it. Ran without issues after the first range day. Purchase (4)Wilson Combat 10 round mags and took it to do some run and gun range with a few friends. I was very surpise of how the gun operated flawlessly. Using the Wilson Combat mags were fantastic, I would definitely recommend for some serious use. So.....3 months later just plinking and hitting the ranges, I have about 2500 rounds with no issues and still running like a champ. Everything is still stock and I am quite happy with it. I was so happy with the fit, finish and performance of the firearm that I decided to purchase the bigger bore brother DW Valkyrie in 45ACP. Hopefully I have the same experience with it. I would recommend DW handguns to anyone. My only complaint are the magazines that come with it. It has a welded basepad and I cannot thoroughly clean it, so basically a wash when purchased with the gun. Expect to pay more $$$$ for extra magazines if intended for hard use.
