Purchased this pistol...
Purchased this pistol at the end of January, and wanted to put it through it's paces before writing a review. I can summarize by stating that this is a great pistol, and has quickly become my new favorite. My purchases before that include the FNP-45 USG and the Walther PPS. I thought I really liked the DA pull of the FN, but after firing the P99, the Walther has it - hands down. Much smoother, and a touch lighter. The SA pull of the FN is nice as well, with a clean break. However, the better pull goes to the Walther's SA pull. It has a much cleaner , glass-like break to it. My only problem with this handgun, are the advertised night sights. They work, and they're good "enough", but side-by-side with the meprolights I have on my Walther PPS, the meprolights are much brighter. And while I don't see a problem with the fact that the P99 came with fixed night sights (I actually prefer fixed sights), I feel it is worth mentioning should anyone think they're getting adjustable night sights. My FAVORITE part of this pistol, besides the AS system and integrated decocker, is that it came with the larger, ambidextrous slide release. Very similar in style to HK, but very rare apparently on Walther P99 pistols in the US. I was not expecting this feature, but it was a nice surprise. Someone else recently reported buying a new Walther P99 from Buds which did not come with the ambi slide release. Why? I have no idea. I've not put a lot of rounds through it, only 500, but I can say that the pistol has functioned flawlessly without any sort of hiccup. I've shot JHP loads of various makes, and it has eaten everything. I want another, in compact now.
