200 ROUND REVIEW\r \r...
200 ROUND REVIEW\r \r I've fired 200 rounds through the Taurus 692 2.5" non ported 7 shot revolver of varying calibers and these are my thoughts.\r \r Testing setup: \r Targets: Cardboard body silhouette, AR500 dueling tree\r Ammunition: .38 Special Waddcutter hand loads, Winchester White Box .38 Special FMJ, Blazer 9mm brass FMJ, Sellier & Bellot .357 Magnum SJHP\r \r Accuracy: Once dialed in - with barrel length taken into account - it is fairly accurate. The wind adjuster screw needed a bit of finessing to get it where I needed it to shoot straight at 10 yards. Once it was sighted, that same setup worked surprisingly well at 30 yards. \r \r Fit & Finish: The matte finishg leaves a bit to be desired and there was a bit of surface rust throughout the revolver upon arrival. It was only visible on the cleaning cloth so it hadn't taken hold or wore into the metal at all. It is a heavy duty over-built gun with a nice soft grip. I switched my grips out for the Hogue ones because I prefer them to Ribber grips. Upon putting 200~ rounds through it, the integrity of the weapon is holding up just fine. The front sight sticker does not stay on very well and slid right off of the front sight when I poked at it to see if I wanted to use my paint pens to color the sight. I ended up using my Birchwood Casey super bright pens starting with a coat of white followed by 3 coats of the orange. It came out looking great and the inset of the colored area keeps the paint from being rubbed off.\r \r Feel: The gun feels great in your hand, I have medium sized hands and I can easily aim and fire the 692 with .357 mag or +P 9mm.\r \r Versatility: This is where this gun shines. During ammo shortages. It has many calibers to choose from and supposedly can even fire .380 ACP with the moon clips, however I did not test this. I find a lot of .380 brass at the shooting spots so eventually the time will come to try some. 9mm works great, .38 wadcutters work great, .38 Special (of course) works great as does the .357 magnum. Being able to fire 9mm is a huge bonus, it is cheapest where I am located when it comes to purchasing ammunition new. .38 Special Wadcutters are probably still the cheapest for me when it comes to reloading.\r \r Final Verdict: A worthy addition to any collection. This firearm is a capable bedside wheel gun, range mule, trail/woods carry, hunting sidearm. The only thing I wouldn't do with one is use it as a display piece. It is blunt and to the point and does it's job well. Taurus is finally getting their act together.
