A: Hi Tim, the barrel is 4150 CrMov (Chrome Moly Vanadium). The "50" in 4150 steel is an indicator that the barrel steel has a carbon content near .50% (Don't mis-read that, it is not 50%, but one half of 1%) Carbon is what Diamondback has decided to call this series of rifles. A: When a firearm is chambered for 5.56 it can also shoot .223. 5.56 would be the primary caliber here because if this were chambered Only for. 223. Then it could not fire the higher pressured 5.56 cartridge.

A: Hi Richard and welcome. 5.56 since the barrel is stamped 5.46NATO it is the primary and can fire both. A .223REM stamped barrel should only fire .223. Cheers and stay safe!

A: Hi Richard, there is no 'primary' caliber. It will shoot both 5.56 and .223, whichever you like. The gun is rated for 5.56, which means it will shoot both calibers. Stay safe & have a great day!
