At 75 years old the Henry 243 is my kind of rifle. Good for target, varmint and with a heavy load is good for mule deer and black tale deer inside of 200 yards… How often does anyone get more than one shot at a deer or a mountain goat….

It is beautiful. It is...
It is beautiful. It is pre-WWII classy. Typically pretty Henry wood. Trigger a little stiff but clean and workable. Might ease up in time. Probably weighs a 1/2 lb too heavy for a 243 that is tailored more for deer than varmints. Mine shoots MOA with Norma Whitetail. Not at all stunning for a varmint 243, but perfection for whitetail. Has a bit of muzzle jump. Love the irons sights. I believe all firearms intended to pack in the backwoods should have iron sights as a safety net, even if though I don't plan to use them. The price is the real hook in my estimate. So far as I am aware, it has no single shot competitor in its' class. The Ruger No.1 and the Merkel K-5 are certainly incredible, but for $2K and $5K respectively they won't be one of my lovers anytime soon. The CVA and TC single shots are fine guns more tailored to hunters that don't take the time to smell the roses when afield. It will certainly stay in my harem. Anyone that gets a peek in my safe is drawn to it.
