This has been the best...
This has been the best little gun for my son to learn with. I had done a lot of research before buying this one. After looking at some others out there I decided to go with the Savage Rascal cause of some of the features it had such as the accutrigger, peep sight and the feed ramp having some movement. A lot of the other guns I looked at had triggers so stiff for added safety that a kid would never be able to shoot accurately. The Accutrigger can be set light enough to be accurate and still be safe. The peep sight is a really good way to learn because your eye automatically centers the front sight. The play in the feed ramp is really handy when the shells get set in less than perfect, seems to help not get jammed as easily. A lot of other starter .22 s are solely built around safety which is a good thing but sometimes they are so safe they are difficult for a youngster to operate. The Rascal is built to be safe but also very functional. I can't count how many prairie dogs, rabbits, birds and pop cans this little thing has killed so far. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to get a smaller kid into shooting.

I did ALOT of research...
I did ALOT of research looking for the perfect, reliable, and lightweight .22 for backpack hunting small game. After countless hours of comparisons I settled with the Rascal and it was far and away an amazing purchase. I was worried about the short LOP especially with the peep sights but nickel sized groups at 25 yards were extremely easy after about ten minutes of adjustment with all types of .22 ammo used (copper lead free, lead, different grain weights). The front was not hammered in completely into the dovetail but rock solid if not just a visual blemish - despite that one issue I still recommend 5/5 stars. Savage rocked it with this little 2.5 lb rifle.
