This is a great rifle....
This is a great rifle. I've had it for over a year and a half and it continues to be reliable and accurate every time I take it out. Before I mounted a scope, I zeroed the iron sights from a bench with plain old sandbags and I got a single ragged hole at 50 yards and easy hits on 12" plates out to 400. With the scope mounted, I consistently get 3/4 minute groups with SMK 175s, while 168s tend to stay right around the 1-minute mark. If you're not a reloader, I can vouch that Federal Gold Medal does just as well as my reloads; it's just more expensive. This rifle will even keep surplus M80 ball inside a 2 minute circle out to 300. Make no mistake, this is not a featherweight gun. The stock is thick and the barrel contour is optimized for accuracy rather than portability, but with a good sling it hangs well and you can certainly carry it - I've carried heavier, but junior is probably not going to do very well shooting it offhand and it won't be my go-to gun for hunts in Western Montana. Not every M1A is a thousand yard rifle, but this one fills the bill; I can't imagine that I will ever want to part with it; it really is a great rifle.

Nice weapon. The...
Nice weapon. The workmanship was what I would expect from Springfield. Excellent grouping right out of the box. I mounted a Leatherwood ART Scope on it and was very pleased at the accuracy. After 60 rounds there were no failures of any kind. It is even more accurate than my other M1A. Well worth the expenditure for an experienced or casual shooter.
