As a fan of history, I...
As a fan of history, I really liked the old Springfield M1 used in WWII, and thought it would be nice to have one, but finding one in good condition at an affordable price is another matter. Since getting an old M1 Garand seemed like a bit of a pipe dream, I decided to look for something else that was reminiscent of its heritage. I liked the M1A because it's made by the same manufacturer, and has a roughly similar look, with a great traditional walnut stock, but is a much more modern gun than the original WWII M1. After reading about them on the manufacturer's web site, I decided I wanted one, and Bud's had the best price. The gun arrived a few days earlier than expected (thanks, Bud's), and as soon as the weekend arrived, I took it to the range. The sights out of the box were so far off, I had to start shooting at only 25 yards to figure out where my rounds were actually going, but I soon had them dialed in. Aside from a little .22 that was my first gun many years ago, I've never shot a rifle using iron sights, and had never attempted shooting iron sights at 100 yards.. So I was impressed when I was able to shoot a half-decent grouping at 100 yards on my first day with the gun. It wasn't the kind of grouping that a competitive shooter would be proud of, but for a guy who's pushing 60 (my eyesight isn't what it used to be) and shooting iron sights for the very first time, I felt really good about the way the gun performed. With just a little practice, I think this gun is going to make me look really good on the range. I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyable shooting with this rifle that is very obviously a high quality gun.

The fit and finish of...
The fit and finish of this firearm is great! Good trigger pull, looks and feels great! You can't hit the side of a barn with it!! For some reason this rifle will not shoot a group. It has been returned to Springfield twice and no improvement. What can you say? Sorry guys...They send a target back with a good group on it and I take it to the range and it tells a different story. It has a Springfield mount and a Leopold Scope, all tight. Nope..I own two others.. one is a "Loaded" version that will shoot anything. But not this one. Practically useless, unless you just like to hear a rifle go BAM, because that's all it can do...

The rifle is...
The rifle is everything it's supposed to be. Extremely accurate, beautifully finished. I was a little disappointed that the plastic case was cracked. I didn't notice it until I got the rifle home. Wouldn't have sent everything back for the case and take a chance of getting a rifle that was not as pristine as this one.
