WOW! This rifle is amazing! I got the best price and it was there in just a few days. After doing my left-hand conversion and putting the AUG-A3 scope in it, I am shooting good! 1" at 100m.(and I'm not a great shot). If you are on the fence about the AUG, just go for it. After coming to like...
After coming to like and appreciate the ar15 platform and its merits I finally made a decision to try out a bullpup rifle. After looking up various bullpups I picked the Steyr Aug A3. So far I have only put about 200 rounds through it so it is not much compared to other firearms I have shot. What I can say so far is that this gun rocks. The trigger is no where near as bad as people may say. It is heavier then an ar15 trigger however I found mine to break and reset quite nice. The rifle feels like nothing once it is shouldered thanks to its balance. Plenty of rail space on top and after market accessories if you need more space. Personally I don't use the vertical grip instead I have It folded up and keep my non trigger hand clasping around the trigger guard area similar to how some hold the IWI Tavor. It is extremely rock solid for me. The gas system/firing design is genius and it ran a variety of ammo including steel, Israeli, Korean and Federal ammunition with no need to adjust the gas system. The FN barrel paired with the bullpup design has led to excellent range results for me and has me believing the hype people say on FN barrels, even though I like my melonite treated ar15 barrels. It is not easy to get comfortable using a bench rest but it can be done. The gun prone and various standing positions however is easy to shoot as any other rifle however. Speed reloads are slower then an ar15 but not by much if you practice and I found no problem switching between either platform. Working the magazine in the Steyr Aug is actually quicker as its closer to your body it just loses some speed do to the magazine release being behind the mag and not where you can manipulate it with your trigger finger. The quick change barrel system is fantastic making it super easy to clean the barrel and inspect other parts of the rifle. It is a great gun and definitely would not be a bad choice for a first rifle or if you have decided to try something else out besides an ar15. You get a sbr sized rifle with a full size barrel that can be easily switched out, a very accurate rifle that gives you such a light weight feel that you could stand and shoot it for hours on end and maintain good groups and the design gives the shooter confidence that it will go bang practically under any conditions. And if you want you can always pick up a nato stock and use ar15 mags. The Steyr Aug A3 is a great gun so far and I look forward into testing it out much harder come winter. Buds was excellent as always and Ill continue to shop with them!
