Shot it today for the...
Shot it today for the first time, 50 rounds...the M4 feed ramps needed smoothing, their roughness caused serval Failure to Feed (FTF). You need to rack the forend with authority, otherwise you will again have a FTF - this may smooth in time. The Mil-Spec trigger is not bad and not great, it's a standard Mil-Spec trigger and an upgrade may be in the future. Note: the trigger pocket has the hardware for the bolt release which may impinge on replacement triggers. Before you order, ask if the particular trigger will fit and function in a Troy PAR. Accuracy, although the barrel is not yet "broken in" was acceptable at 50 yards - the factory sights are good. The accuracy will probably improve as the barrel wears and as I find the Ammo that it prefers. Optics for longer, more accurate shot placement will be in the future - a scout scope may be perfect. Overall impression is "good" especially since I live in a very restrictive state. So far, I would give the Troy PAR in 5.56/.223 a " Buy Recommendation."

I've owned this rifle...
I've owned this rifle for roughly 3 years chambered in .223. I've put through roughly 800 rounds in that timeframe and have come away with some key insights. Buds product description states the rifle was 556 and 223 however, the information stamped on the PAR stated .223. I contacted Troy and the service rep stated that the rifle is safe for both calibers. Also, the rifle arrived with the Troy "breach" muzzle break, differing from the product description from buds. The service rep at Troy stated that depending on the date of manufacturing, muzzle breaks may vary. Now, down to performance. I do not regret my purchase of this riffle. It looks wonderful and is accurate. I use this rifle in the restricted state of NY and wait for the opportunity to educate someone on how it is NY compliant. However, after exstenaive use and disassembly, I have repeatedly ran into an issue where the bolt carrier fails to load while pumping. Without extreme authority while cocking and ejecting my PAR is prone to failure and requires multiple forceful pumps to correct. Troy specifically stated that steel cases ammo is to be avoided, as do many other manufacturers, but I can say for a fact that my riffle is completely unable to cycle steel. I found this odd and somewhat unacceptable for a pump riffle despite the manufacturer warning. With the cycling issues with brass and steel I have experienced I would not be comfortable relying on this unit for defensive purposes. To me, that is an unexceptable characteristic in a firearm.

Received 2nd generation of rifle. Picture on Bud's is 1st generation. This is a well built rifle, however it only comes with one year warranty from Troy. I would highly recommend getting the life time warranty from Bud's.
