A: Douglas, the grip size will be the same so it will come down to barrel length on this. For "Home Defense" it's pretty much a wash. I personally would get the 5 inch barrel (Since you will not be carrying concealed) simply for the edge in ballistic stopping power.

A: for all practical purposes there is no difference pick the one you like. the grip size is the same the only difference is that the commander has a 3/4 inch shorter barrel. the full size should be a little more accurate due to the longer sighting plane. for me the full size feels better and better balanced

A: The 1911 was designed with the 5 inch barrel and functions best with that length barrel and slide. I' stick with the original design for reliability.

A: it is a excellent 1911 very reliable (may need 3-500 rounds break in ) and accurate with a good fit and finish. break in period is somewhat common on 1911s
