It was mainly used in the RPK but has seen more popularity for AKs due to that rigidity. Remember these were built around a full auto platform. So in harsh gunfights it may make a difference. A: Morning Charles, .223/5.56 are a different round than 7.62x39. This AK-47 will ONLY shoot 7.62x39. If you purchase a rifle chambered for 5.56 then that rifle will Also be able to shoot .223 ammo. But not the other was around. A rifled chambered fir .223 cannot Handle the higher pressure 5.56 round.
